Jessica Mauboy is an Aboriginal woman who aspired to be an artist and achieved it. Her mother is from the Kuku Yalanji mob of Northern Queensland and her father is of Indonesian decent. At only the age of 16, Jessica Mauboy, became runner up in Australian Idol. Incredibly she has soared through her career, creating many unique songs, movies and television series. Jessica Mauboy in so many ways is a true idol, especially for young people. Most impressively she is well respected and loved within the Aboriginal community.

Jessica Mauboy’s fame has shown how humble and down to earth she really is a as an individual. She continually gives to her community and works hard on assisting rural communities; encouraging younger indigenous people to focus on education, music and language.

Charities:
2009, Mauboy became a spoke person for Indigenous Literacy Project which aims to provide learning materials and books to schools and centres in remote areas.
2011, she worked with the Yalari organisation which offered remote and rural towns an opportunity at ‘first-class secondary education’.
2013, Mauboy was appointed the ambassador of the Aboriginal Yiprinya School in Alice Springs (a bi-lingual and bi-cultural school). Mauboy assist with fundraising events as well as visited the school on many occasions. Mauboy also had Telstra donate 40 tablets to the school to assist in learning in particular how to be safe online.

In 2015, she became the ambassador of Indigenous Literacy Foundation. This organisation assist in the literacy support of children in remote and rural communities.
Mauboy performed free acoustic concerts across Australia as part of the Indian Pacific Outback Christmas.
Mauboy is an ambassador for Sony Foundation, raising funds for youth related causes.
$2 of each sale made from the nail polish she had created, went to the Children’s Hospital Foundation, to support the research into childhood illnesses.
Jessica Mauboy also, performed a free pop up show at Federation Square in Melbourne, as part of the Optus Carols for a Cause event, which raised funds for Kids Helpline and The Smith Family.
Headlined the Come Together charity concert to aid two boys who were burnt in an explosion.

Movie & Television:
In 2010, Jessica Mauboy became an actress, starring in ‘Bran Nue Day’. Based in the 60’s, a young man at a Catholic Boarding school, runs away to go back to his homeland. The movie tells his journey and all the many different characteristic’s he met a long the way. Her small part in the film caught the eye of many which earned her a nomination for ‘Female Actress of the Year at the 2010 - Deadly Awards.’
In 2012, she starred in another hit movie, ‘The Sapphires’. A movie about four young women who share great music and learn first hand about the Vietnamese War. The movie has an abundance of comedy, drama, love and most importantly the connection of sisterhood. Jessica Mauboy starred along a great cast such as Miranda Tapsell and Deborah Mailman.
In 2016, Jessica Mauboy was the lead in a Television series, ‘The Secret Daughter’. The series lasted for 2 seasons where Mauboy exhibited her incredible work ethic and determination to complete the work above satisfactory. Many viewers believed the show’s disguising feature was its musical aspect, which majority was performed by Jessica Mauboy herself.
In 2017, it was announced that Jessica Mauboy would participate in Eurovision – Portugal. She is the 4th person to represent Australia throughout the entirety of the competition. Jessica Mauboy sang ‘We Got Love’ and finished in 20th place.

In 2015, Mauboy realised her first branded perfume, ‘Be Beautiful,’ which was inspired by her hometown, Darwin.
In 2016, Mauboy was on the cover of Who magazine’s Sexiest People as well as in 2012.
Jessica Mauboy is an inspiration to many and she is a great edition to Rise Up - Famous Aboriginal People who give back to community. I can't to see what Jessica has planned for herself and her career in the near future. Personally i hope we see her in more movies and Television series.
